PEER PRESSURE:
Peer pressure is the direct influence on people by peers, or an individual who gets encouraged to follow their peers by changing their attitudes, values, or behaviors to conform to those of the influencing group or individual. This type of pressure differs from general social pressure because it causes an individual to change in response to a feeling of being pressured or influenced from a peer or peer group. Social groups affected include both membership groups, in which individuals are "formally" members (such as political parties and trade unions), and cliques in which membership is not clearly defined.
A girl steps forward, a popular ringleader who owns many followers. One who has her hair and make-up done like she was going on a catwalk not to a party, who has less than an eighth of the amount of clothes on, then what her mother began to thought was trashy and was not known by her name but what she did. She smelt of smoke and alcohol. “Do it and you will be like everyone else” She hissed. The crowd around them agreed. The ringleader pulled out a pill and offers it to the girl. “This under your tongue and you will be popular forever.” She pulled a sickly sweet smile which made the girl even more uneasy.
‘What if Mum found out?! What would my friends say? Will something bad happen? I have a really bad feeling about this’ Thought the girl. These questioned raced around her head. Her heart persisted her to do it but her mind and stomach screamed “NO!!!”
The ringleader grew tiresome of waiting, “Do it and you will be one of us!” She said as she forced the little pink pill towards the girl. Her crystal blue eyes pierced the girls body and mind and as socially expected to do at this point, the girl moved her hand i\to take it...... But wait...... What’s this? The girls hand stoped mid movement and retracts. She stands up tall, sets her big brown eyes gaze upon those eyes of the ringleader and said “But I don’t want to be like you.” With those words she turned on heel and walked away.
Millions of teens worldwide are being pressured into drugs, alcohol and under-age sex, every single day. Low grades, depression, sickness/injury to the body and mind, teenage preganacy and even death are just some repercussions of Peer Pressure. Something needs to be done, or whose teen is next on the news for a tragedy.
